Veterans Directory

The Veterans Directory has existed since 2016 and has undergone several changes. While some organisations attempted to copy it, including the Veterans Gateway, these alternatives are no longer operating.

The directory transformed from a standard service to an in-house, database-driven system. This change removed many of the restrictions previously encountered in the older directory-based system. The newer system features a more functional search capability which will eventually be integrated into a mobile application. It is smooth, fast and easy to navigate and edit. The Veterans Directory is part of Forces Online, which became a registered charity in April 2020.

Some of the copied services used to display lengthy descriptions, logo images, and links to social media and websites. The original service was difficult and time-consuming when adding entries, and confusing for clients who wanted to add or maintain their own listings. During a COBSEO-led reorganisation, Forces Online took steps to remove any MOD images from the website and ensure it is not misleading to users. It links to users' websites or social media with just a few clicks and does not duplicate information found on the source, thus keeping everything simple and up to date.

From an external client's perspective, it is very easy to add or maintain a listing. Just visit The Veterans Directory for more details.
